00pm Duties and Responsibilities This position will be required to work after the agency has closed and clients and staff have left.
Position duties involve the cleaning and minor maintenance of the building and grounds of the Department of Social Services.
Employee will perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of office buildings.
Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving office furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of supplies, files, etc.
Work is performed under the close supervision, guided by a daily schedule for general assignments and specific instructions for special assignments.
Work is reviewed through inspections and frequent consultation with supervisor.
Sweeps, mops and vacuums floor surfaces.
Waxes and buffs terrazzo and tile floor surfaces.
Maintains bathroom areas in a sanitary manner and replenishes paper supplies as necessary.
Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
Empties trash receptacles throughout the agency daily and additional times as needed.
Moves office furniture upon assignment.
Makes minor repairs to equipment and changes light bulbs.
Shovels snow from sidewalks and takes preventive measures to ensure safety of clientele and staff members.
Sweeps front sidewalk and removes litter from parking areas.
Other miscellaneous duties assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of effective housekeeping practices including floor maintenance.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to relate to clientele served.
Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
Some knowledge of mechanics.
Must be able to lift over 75 lbs.
Desired Education and Experience Education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
